The trick is that the heroine named Ashley appears to the ashes through a portal in a dream. She is not the chosen one and not a psychic, but simply the next victim of an ominous hotbed of darkness that absorbs the souls of people like gourmet dishes. The hellish restaurant kidnaps men and women, turning them into ghosts, and forever imprisoning them in a labyrinth of dark rooms, surrounded by fears and broken hopes. One of the prisoners of the damned establishment communicates with the protagonist. She leaves notes clarifying the nature of the dark phenomenon, and recommendations on how to save Ashley herself, and at the same time free those who have long been dead.The main gameplay tool in Ashley: The Emptiness Inside is a camera, which the character uses to solve puzzles. Many passages are blocked by magical seals. Hints appear in the lens, by analyzing which you can pick up keys to enchanted doors or find hidden objects. During the game, you will come across pages from the diary of Catherine, the same hostage who brought Ashley to an alternate reality. The plot is revealed through these entries, but on the other hand, it does not affect the overall atmosphere.Despite the interesting idea, the project looks raw, and the gameplay threatens to quickly become boring. Screamers are not scary, because the environment does not build up anxiety. Perhaps the developer would have succeeded better in the visual novel genre. The texts are written in an understandable language and are quite exciting, but, alas, there are too many of them for a horror game, where all the dynamics are in the events.
