Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm introduces a turn-based RPG. The gameplay revolves around a team of three characters, and each of them advances, gaining experience, levels and acquiring new equipment and abilities. Unlike traditional turn-based systems, smooth timekeeping in combat is implemented. The character's speed determines how often he can act, with varying action speeds, reload speeds and other dynamic factors determining the course of combat. The overall skill bar of the party members increases as they attack and take damage, giving them the opportunity to spend it on powerful abilities. Additionally, a gradually filling explosion meter stuns enemies when it reaches maximum, sets the skill meter to maximum, and provides a significant skill damage boost to party members. Outside of combat, the narrative unfolds as characters complete guild missions, often involving visiting alternate worlds - parallel dimensions accessible through magical gates. The campaign unfolds in chapters, with story missions furthering the storyline. After completing enough story missions, a new chapter begins, opening up new alternate locations to explore. The party's main goal is to navigate these alternate dimensions in search of gems to power up the Escalario Iris Manuscript, a magical book rumored to grant a wish upon collecting all eight gems.
