Ayakashibito is a project that combines urban fantasy and Japanese mythology and tells the story of modern yokai. These creatures from Japanese myths and legends once ruled the country, but the Meiji Restoration, Westernization, and technological advances have forced them to reduce their influence, leaving them with a choice between coexisting with human society or leaving forever. Many of them settled among people and produced jinyo - half-humans, half-youkai, possessing supernatural abilities. The plot of Ayakashibito revolves around Takabe Ryoichi - one of these people with a youkai pedigree, placed in a special scientific institution as a child. Tired of such a life and using the help of his friend, the mysterious Suzu, he escapes and settles in the city of Kamizawa, where mostly half-breeds, relatively safe for society, are concentrated. He goes to a local school, settles in and begins to live a peaceful life, but everything is not so simple - the hero is pursued by a mysterious organization, Dominion.The game belongs to the genre of visual novels with all the inherent game features of such projects - reading dialogues and texts, choosing options for answers and actions, watching scenes with character sprites and backgrounds and fully drawn images at especially important moments.
