Call of Duty: World at War is a first-person shooter, as well as the 5th game in the Call of Duty series, the events of which take place during World War II. As the game progresses, players will have to immerse themselves in the story of two characters: Private Miller from the American infantry, and Red Army Private Dmitry Petrenko. Each game character corresponds to the storyline on the Pacific and Western Front, and in total the game has 15 single-player campaign missions. In the story campaign, the player will have to survive a series of fierce missions that will take place from 1942 to 1945 using all kinds of weapons on different front lines. In addition to the story campaign, the game also has multiplayer and various game modes. Zombie Reich, for example, is a bonus game mode where the player will have to fight waves of zombies. This mode is unlocked after completing story missions and can be played both alone and in a multiplayer game. The game also features a standard multiplayer mode, in which the player will have to fight other players in all sorts of locations in the setting of World War II. Call of Duty: World at War added the War mode for the first time, the goal of which was to capture and hold control points, as well as capture enemy flags. In addition, the game retained all previous multiplayer modes, and in one of the subsequent patches received an update in the form of a set of maps.
