Close Combat 3: The Russian Front is the third part of the famous Close Combat strategy games. The scale of this part is enormous and instead of focusing on one operation, it focuses on the entire Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945. This opens up a huge number of weapon platforms and troops to kill. The interface hasn't changed much, but it has been improved and the status bar no longer takes up a quarter of the screen. Instead, one bar tells you everything you need to know.Right-clicking on a unit brings up a list of commands, which now includes an Ambush command. This will make troops hide, and only come out if the enemy is very close. Changing direction is handled well. One click on a unit with an Ambush or Defend command and a circle will appear around it with an arc highlighting its front side. Directing the unit is easy by dragging the arc to where you want it to face. This is also useful for placing idle tanks so that they don't expose their weak points to the enemy.Added several new gameplay elements. You no longer need to worry about the troops choosing the most open area when ordering them to move. Units can be assigned to move through a series of waypoints, allowing you to choose the most advantageous route. Close Combat 3: The Russian Front lets you fight against human opponents or superior AI in single and custom scenarios, operations or campaigns.Campaign mode starts with a small number of units that gain experience as the war drags on. The more battles you win, the higher your rank and the larger the number of troops you can command. New to this game is the introduction of armies of varying quality. You can now choose from recruits, standard or elite units. This really changes the way you plan battles, especially when leading a horde of newbies. In between battles, you can rest your troops, re-equip them with different equipment or withdraw them from the campaign.
