At first, there are a couple of berry pickers and slingers, and after a while the colony grows to the borders of the empire. Stronger and more reliable structures require the use of bronze, iron, steel. For the production of such materials, fuel is needed - charcoal, coke. For the manufacture of crossbows, matchlock barrels, complex metals are needed. An increase in the number of settlers entails an increase in food consumption.
