Dead Nation is an adrenaline-pumping challenge that throws the player into a world teeming with voracious zombies. This dual-analog top-down shooter can be played alone or with a friend, in both local and online co-op. There are ten levels, each with its own set of environments, enemies and objectives. Stepping into the shoes of Jack MacReady or Scarlett Blake - two lucky people immune to the virus that has infected humanity - players embark on a terrifying journey through the streets, buildings and labyrinths of the city's sewers. Their task is to find a cure and find a way to escape. The undead they encounter appear before the players in a variety of creepy forms - from fast runners to jumpers, vile spitters and colossal giants. In the heat of battle, players have a wide range of weapons at their disposal, including firearms, melee weapons, and a repertoire of tactical moves. Resourcefulness is key, as flares, car alarms, grenades, and even vending machines can be used to distract attention. Car trunks and vehicles contain all sorts of loot, including cash, ammo, multipliers, and vital armor pieces. These resources can be spent wisely at checkpoints to upgrade weapons and armor. Dead Nation's intriguing gameplay is complemented by a metagame in which players are encouraged to team up with their compatriots and work together to reclaim their country from the zombies. This rivalry culminates in a race to rid their homeland of the infected horde. After the victory of one of the nations, a new cycle of infection begins, which promises players a dynamic and constantly evolving confrontation in a post-apocalyptic world.
