Deadlock 2: Shrine Wars is the story of seven galactic civilizations chosen to live on one planet, competing for one goal. For the most part, it looks and plays exactly the same as the original. Some of the new additions include more military units, several new buildings, a campaign structure and a scenario editor. Veterans of the first game will easily move on to the sequel. The interface has been improved and has become more graphically attractive. Tool tips appear on almost every icon, and there is also an interactive help guide. The gameplay is step-by-step and instead of worrying about dozens of planets, you only need to worry about one. All the fun aspects of large-scale galactic games are still present in Deadlock 2: Shrine Wars, including a variety of military units, a large tech tree, and plenty of diplomatic options. The key, however, is micromanagement. The game starts with one territory and must expand from there. Each zone contains resources and has a limited number of building spaces. Proper placement of colony buildings helps a lot. Once the buildings are built, the next step is to rearrange the settlers inside them. Each building usually serves several functions. These include trading or boosting morale, creating units, or helping with research and resource management. With a limited number of places for construction and a limit on the number of colonists that can fit on one site, their correct combination into a productive workforce is the key to expansion and victory.
