Def Jam Vendetta uses the unchanged AKI engine. Thanks to the elegant elements of pressing buttons, the game is more like an arcade style than a realistic simulator. Drawing parallels to WWF No Mercy, the campaign unfolds in an expansive story mode where users embark on a journey to elevate their chosen character, seeking recognition in the city's fighting league. The ultimate goal is to challenge and defeat the undefeated underground boss D-Mob, whose character is brought to life by veteran actor Christopher Judge. Victory can be achieved through three different methods: pinning the opponent for a count of three, forcing them into submission, or delivering a knockout blow. The pin process requires successfully holding the opponent for a designated three-second period. Patient locks, on the other hand, involve strategically targeting specific body parts, gradually sapping the opponent's strength. A well-executed hold can only be broken by reaching the ropes. If the supply of any body part is completely depleted, the bones break, which leads to automatic submission and defeat. To gain an advantage, gamers will be able to increase the power scale by attacking the enemy. Once activated, Blazin mode allows you to perform special moves with the ability to knock out the enemy if their health is low enough.
