Fear Equation combines turn-based strategy, roguelike and horror. The main character is a machinist. He controls a train moving through an ominous fog, in which people often disappear. This substance can make nightmares come true. In a strange atmospheric phenomenon, in addition to nightmarish creatures, the military and members of the cult of the fearless walk. They are all dangerous.
The protagonist turned out to be an engineer at the same time. He built a locomotive specially equipped for this emergency. In Fear Equation, you need to save people and try to get out from under this thick curtain with minimal losses. The train must be refueled, the passengers must be fed, and the cars must be repaired and protected. People are constantly creating problems. First, each person brings with them fear that the fog can use against everyone. Secondly, they may not trust the hero, because he does not come out of the cab to them and communicates with only the help of notes, or read him too much. Thirdly, the rescued characters will sooner or later be divided into 4 groups, depending on their views on the horror happening around. This leaves the risk of general uprising and internal conflicts. There is also a chance of murder.
The gameplay is about planning and decision making. Here it is necessary to organize forays for resources or simply send volunteers for reconnaissance, study the files of passengers, establish relations between them, distribute instructions, read reports, look for clues in radio messages. At the same time, the game does not immediately punish for a rash choice and makes it possible to correct mistakes. Each new playthrough in this title is unique. It is possible to customize the driver and his passengers, as well as complicate or facilitate their life using modifiers.
