Grabbed by the Ghoulies is a 3D action adventure filled with beat em up mechanics. Unlike the typical style of previous Rare platformers, the process is simple and focuses on navigating through different areas of the mansion and completing certain tasks in each room. These tasks range from destroying all ghouls present, to selectively attacking certain types of ghouls while avoiding others, or finding hidden keys hidden inside ghouls before further development is possible.Combat and melee are controlled with the thumbsticks, while camera adjustments can be made with the triggers. The mansion is full of destructible objects, allowing for the possibility of finding Super Soup power-ups. These power-ups can have both detrimental and beneficial effects, ranging from changing controls or reducing speed to granting invulnerability or immobilizing ghouls. Failure to complete a task within the allotted time or otherwise failing to complete it causes the Grim Reaper to appear, who relentlessly pursues Cooper's character. Encountering the Reaper results in Cooper's instant death, requiring a room restart, though it can also be used strategically to take out ghouls. A variety of standard enemies are featured, including zombies, mummies, imps, skeletons, and zombie pirates. Moreover, various objects scattered around the environment, such as chairs, knives and axes, serve as potential weapons that Cooper can use in combat. Move around the different parts of the mansion, facing various challenges in each room and use combat and melee tactics using maneuvers with the control stick.
