Guilty Gear X2 #Reload: The Midnight Carnival retains the basic elements of the predecessor's process, but adds additional features to strengthen the combat system. The voltage and protection indicators remained unchanged, providing a familiar basis. Movement, normal attacks, accelerations, instant kills, flawless defense and attacks at a dead angle also retain their essence from the previous part. Building on existing mechanics, the campaign includes aerial versions of Dust attacks and throws. Each character's Dust attacks in the air exhibit unique differences compared to their ground-based counterparts, adding depth to the combat dynamics. Notably, the Dust command now has a dedicated button, increasing the accessibility and precision of the technique. Some subtleties include the lack of FD cancels and the introduction of a stagger effect that requires manipulation of the control stick to minimize the time spent in a staggered state. The inclusion of Force Roman Cancels expands the possibilities of combos, allowing them to be used on projectiles or moves before their hitboxes become active. These cancels cost 25% Tension and are limited to specific attacks with a limited window to activate. Psychic explosions, a defensive maneuver that pushes the enemy away without causing damage, debut together with the explosion sensor. Performing in a neutral state results in a Golden Blast, which provides full tension when successfully hit.
