Half-Life takes place on planet Earth. The protagonist travels to the Black Mesa research complex, located in the United States. Gordon Freeman is a young and talented scientist working in a top-secret lab as a PhD candidate in theoretical physics. The process begins with the protagonist getting to Black Mesa to start working in the department for anomalous events. A large-scale experiment begins in the research center, and Gordon receives special protection in the form of an H suit.E.V. Having gone to test room C-33, he takes part in the process of studying a new element, a certain crystal. The object falls under the rays of an anti-mass spectrometer, which causes an unexpected catastrophe. The cascade resonance created by the combination of elements opened portals between the world of Xen and Earth. Hostile creatures began to teleport to the planet, killing all people in their path. After the incident, Freeman fulfills the demands of Eli Vance and goes to the surface to call for help. On the way, he will have to fight off a crowd of terrifying extraterrestrial creatures and use the access cards of scientists and security. The few survivors are still trying to minimize the disaster. After some time, the main character of HL learns that the American government sent a special HECU squad to clear the entire territory and witnesses of the incident. Because of this, Gordon gains more enemies and new troubles. To complete the task, Gordon will have to get to the Lambda complex and go through hundreds of monsters and special forces. The protagonist ends up on a strange island, and to go further, he will need to destroy the enemy boss Gonarch - the queen of headcrabs. Freeman's main task in Half-Life is to get into the world of Zen to stop the portals and destroy the aliens forever. Once in the territory of Zen, he fights with intelligent creatures and makes his way through dozens of dangerous locations. The last boss is Nihilanth, a creature holding a spatial rift. By destroying it, he will be able to stop extraterrestrial creatures from getting to humanity's home planet.
