The narrative in Heavenly Guardian differs between single-player and multiplayer modes, but the process itself remains consistent. In the single-player journey, the plot revolves around the snow goddess Sayuki and her affection for a young boy living in a nearby village. During her visit, she discovers that the boy has succumbed to an eternal curse, causing him to sleep forever. To break the curse, Sayuki sets off on a journey across a vast land accompanied by her faithful pet rabbit Toto in search of healing ingredients. The multiplayer mode features a different storyline, centered around a beauty contest hosted by the Snow Goddess Tribe. Sayuki and her younger sister Koyuki decide to enter a fierce competition for the coveted first place. The competition is a challenging race for the sisters, involving destroying ghosts and accumulating snowballs along the way. Heavenly Guardian follows the style of the Kiki KaiKai series, being a scrolling shooter where the player maneuvers the character in various directions, launching projectiles at opponents. The game can be played solo or with a second person, who takes control of Sayuki's sister, Koyuki. In the single-player session, Toto, Sayuki's loyal snow rabbit companion, accompanies her and fires ice blasts in tandem with Sayuki's attacks. After defeating the bosses in the story mode, you can go on an attack against the bosses, offering a rematch against these formidable opponents.
