Hellbender - Space simulator with action elements, in which the player controls a shuttle called Hellbender. You have to fly through space and different planets, shooting down enemies and performing various tasks. The main task is not to crash, because the ship has no inertia. Reaction speed and shooting accuracy are very important. Each new planet offers new challenges and enemies.

10 weapons are available for use. Two cannons, such as the Valkyrie and the Laser, have unlimited ammo and so act as primary weapons. The Sledgehammer rocket launcher, Viper homing gun, and Doomsday mortar have a huge damage rating, but their ammunition is limited. Some guns are unlocked as you go through the Hellbender story campaign. You can also get additional weapons if you collect bonuses.

There are three missions per planet. After all the missions are completed, a new planet or part of the galaxy opens. The confrontation involves Earthlings and an alien race who call themselves the Bions. The latter kills Coalition pilots on Sebeka. The protagonist, nicknamed the Counselor, survives the carnage. Now it's up to him to find survivors and protect the human race from the bloodthirsty Bions. The voice of the onboard computer belongs to the famous actress Gillian Anderson.
