Insurgency 2 - a realistic combat simulator in the setting of the Iraqi war, first-person shooter. It uses realistic physics of both shooting and characters, which is achieved using the Source engine. There is also no on-screen crosshair, forcing aiming from the front sight mounted on the weapon. Battles take place online or co-op, no single story campaign added.

There are only two opposing sides: the fighters of the Private Military Company of the United States of America and the insurgents from Iraq. They oppose the power of their home country established by US forces and want to regain independence from foreigners. The battles take place on 27 maps in 12 different locations in the format of a confrontation between squads, each of them with 16 soldiers controlled by players. To kill an enemy, 1-4 bullets in different parts of the body are enough. The interface during the gameplay is as minimalistic as possible and does not contain unnecessary information. There is a mini-map, where allies are highlighted and a schematic concept of the landscape is given.

There are 8 modes for multiplayer battles in total:

• Push - capture three points on the map and hold them to collect points.
• Firefight - there is a collision for one object on the map, after one side captures it, it can go to destroy the enemy camp.
• Skirmish is a modification of the previous mode, adding special caches that need to be protected.
• Occupy - "King of the Hill" from many other projects.
• Ambush - one side accompanies an important person, the second is trying to destroy her.
• Strike - the attacking army must find a cache to capture it.
• Infiltrate is a standard battle for the flag, instead of it some important data is presented. They need to be taken to a safe place..
• Flashpoint - you need to establish total control over all territories to win.
