Kensei Sacred Fist is a fighting game that emphasizes strategic gameplay and precise timing over speed. It uses a unique button mapping system that splits inputs into punches, kicks, throws, and guards, giving players a diverse moveset and combos. The combat mechanics allow for multi-step throws that can be parried with a well-timed button press. The pace is slower compared to other fighting games, with a focus on properly executing moves and knowing attack range to effectively chain combos and juggle. Kensei Sacred Fist's gameplay requires avoiding button mashing, as failed combos leave characters vulnerable for long periods of time. Jumps are realistic but provide extra height, and sidesteps are generally slow, with the exception of characters with special sidesteps in their moveset. The guard button is more like a dodge, allowing characters to dodge attacks rather than block them. Successful defense allows you to quickly switch to a counter-offensive position or dodge back, while the recovery time depends on the time when the gamer pressed the defense button. Low attacks are defended by pressing the Down + Defense button. Arcade mode consists of ten stages, the first eight involve random opponents. At the ninth stage, users face an additional boss, and at the tenth they will have to fight the crime boss Layman.
