Kuon provides the opportunity to control three different characters – Utsuki, Sakuya and Abe no Seimei – while exploring the intricate surroundings of the Fujiwara estate. A third-person view from above is used, which leads these characters through the estate at a measured pace, sometimes running for quick maneuvers, risking being discovered by hiding enemies. Progressing will require you to carefully search the mansion's nooks and crannies, solving puzzles, and finding vital items marked by flashing indicators. Certain sections of the mansion are initially inaccessible, requiring specific items assigned to specific characters to enter. While exploring, characters encounter menacing creatures, often attracted by sound. Combat options vary between characters, with Utsuki wielding a knife, Sakuya using a fan, and Abe no Seimei using a naginata. Interacting with enemies requires manual alignment with no locking mechanism, adding an extra layer of difficulty. Additionally, while exploring, gamers come across a limited number of spell cards, divided into projectiles for immediate attacks and summon papers that summon temporary allies to attack enemies.
