Magic: The Gathering – Battlegrounds is a real-time strategy game where you have to participate in duels using pre-selected spell books. The goal is to reduce the enemy's life to zero, starting with 20 lives for each. Fights take place in arenas taken from the multiverse, although these arenas differ only visually. Each participant controls a duelist, and he is displayed on the screen along with his number of lives and mana. You will need to edit your spellbook before each duel, swapping spells represented by icons. During combat, duelists can use physical attacks and summon shields to mitigate damage. Physical attacks are more effective when moving forward. While in enemy territory, a duelist can attack and steal mana crystals, but cannot cast spells or summon shields. Moving into enemy territory results in periodic casualties. Victory in battlegrounds relies heavily on metagame strategies, where the dynamics of the game balance the use of spells, attacks, and defenses. There is an arcade duel mode with a ten-minute time limit per duel, excluding alternative victory conditions such as the white spell Endurance Test. Strategically arrange spells in your spellbook to adapt them to different opponents and master the timing and effectiveness of physical attacks during combat. Use shields wisely to minimize damage and control mana consumption.
