The action of Magicka takes place in the country of Midgart, which the player must save from an evil wizard named Grimnir, playing the role of a good magician. The campaign consists of 12 chapters, each with a location with different spells. The main character is armed not only with a magic staff, as befits a magician, but also with an Excalibur – a sword for close combat. Magic, consisting of eight elements: water, fire, steam, ice, life and other, plays a special role in the gameplay. All these elements can be mixed to create new spells, which opens up the possibility of flexibly combining and selecting a magical arsenal. In addition to spells and weapons, the game has barriers and shields, but there is also a place for healing magic. The wizard has already fought Grimnir, who wanted to destroy the whole world, but lost the fight because the demon Assatur controlled the evil sorcerer. According to the plot, the gamer goes to the beginning of the path to find a mysterious dragon and ask him for a special spell to defeat the demon. Magicka does not have the usual division of characters into classes. All heroes are armed with staffs for long-range attacks and swords for close ones. The game is also full of rather absurd weapons that do not correspond to the time of the plot events, for example, the M60 machine gun. It can be received as a reward from residents for saving the village.
