In Malice, players embark on a journey with the red-haired goddess Malice, who returns from the afterlife with a mission. Her goal is to stop the evil Dog God, a vicious villain who seeks to destroy one world after another. Malice's initial attempt to save her world ends in failure, resulting in her death at the hands of the Dog God, who callously bites off her head. Resurrected, Malice meets Death, who, not approving of the goddess in the afterlife, sends her back to the realm of the living. On the assignment of the Metal Guardian, the Guardian of the Universe, Malice must find eight Logical Keys in order to find and confront the elusive Dog God. The heroine, armed with a giant club given to her by the Metal Guardian, sets out on a journey through twenty different worlds to stop the destructive rampage of the Dog God. The Metal Guardian, a tall clock with knowledge of all living things except the elusive Dog God, guides the girl on her mission. He asks her to help find eight logic keys to track down the Dog God and save the universe. Throughout the game, the Metal Guardian provides Malice with weapon upgrades and bonus features, including unlocking additional games with the appearance of special coins. Death, originally encountered in the underworld, informs the amnesiac Malice of her divine nature and urges her to settle the score with the Dog God. In moments of defeat, Death reappears as the ghost of Malice, expressing frustration with the goddesses he calls administrative nightmares. The Dog God, the archenemy of Malice and the main antagonist, is a malevolent force that travels between worlds, conquering and destroying with the ultimate goal of destroying the entire universe.
