Over The Hills And Far Away is a touching, tender and cozy story, designed as a visual novel, and tells the story of a wounded soldier William Aubrey meeting a little Indian girl. The events take place in 1812 in North America. The hero is bleeding: not wanting to die in the open air, he drags himself with his last strength to an abandoned barn to hide inside and catch his breath before losing consciousness from acute anemia. However, having penetrated under the roof, the pale-skinned colonist with languid surprise notices another living soul among the rubbish and scattered straw. As such, the gameplay in Over The Hills And Far Away is absent - there is no opportunity to even choose a replica when communicating with an interlocutor. The player passively watches the development of the plot, as if spying on how representatives of warring races gradually become imbued with mutual respect and warmth. At first, the man is cold, wary and slightly arrogant. However, the girl quickly wins him over with her warmth, care and, what's more, her knowledge of English. Aubrey's difficult-to-pronounce Indian name is resourcefully shortened to the nickname Mai and opens up to her.Several points about the project's features:
- The gameplay is presented in the form of a series of animated pictures, accompanied by a pleasant soundtrack and a text part describing the dialogues and inner experiences of the hero.
- The music is written specifically for the game and performed by a professional orchestra.
- The atmosphere and flavor of the era of colonial expansion are perfectly conveyed.
