The gameplay of Samurai Western focuses solely on action and lacks the adventure elements present in the main Way of the Samurai series. The campaign consists of stages, and the main goal is to defeat hordes of enemies. It supports both single-player and two-player modes with varying difficulty levels from normal to insane.In single-player mode, you take on the role of Gojiro, a samurai who uses a variety of swords to defeat enemies. There is a wide selection of swords, allowing you to fight using five different sword styles. Each style combines fundamental maneuvers - quick combos, powerful attacks and aerial attacks - but offers exclusive abilities. Gojiro has innate skills to dodge bullets and can reflect them with his sword. Destroying enemies fills the meter, giving access to Master Mode, which greatly expands Gojiro's ability to quickly destroy enemies. In the two-player mode, the second gamer personifies Ralph, armed with a pistol for long-range attacks. Unlike Gojiro, Ralph cannot deflect bullets, but can dodge and roll. His fighting style emphasizes long-range attacks, supplemented by the ability to strike enemies to briefly incapacitate them.
