The plot of SpongeBob SquarePants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman unfolds as SpongeBob, in a bizarre turn of events, unwittingly releases the notorious Flying Dutchman onto Bikini Bottom. Misadventures begin when pet snail Gary finds a chest containing a mysterious bottle. Simple friction of a bottle starts a chain reaction, showering the underwater city with doubloons and freeing the Flying Dutchman. Faithful to his ghostly nature, the flying Dutchman immediately declares Gary a permanent member of the crew of his ship. The main character goes on a trip to seven different locations, and each has a set of tiles with letters where his name is written. A peculiar quest based on a book approved by Skvidard about the fight against evil spirits, rotates around the collection of treasure from the past life of a flying Dutchman to weaken his ghostly power. While the sponge Bob solves a number of problems, from the delivery of food to Mr. Crabsu to participation in the competition for fishing jellyfish, the bets are increasing, since the malicious influence of the flying Dutchman terrorizes the bikini Bottom. The gameplay presented in 3D on home consoles immerses in a platformer adventure. Bob sponge acquires various abilities necessary for progress, and the search for tiles with letters continues. Completing each level launches a sliding puzzle that gives clues to the location of the next treasure.
