Suikoden V is an RPG adventure where you take responsibility for the prince, traveling across the world map, completing quests and participating in conversations with various characters. Expanding the party is crucial, including side quests to recruit new allies. In cities, activities range from collecting information to sharpening weapons and buying equipment, and in the wild there are random encounters with monsters. Notably, it features a 60fps frame rate, which improves immersion, and uses a top-down camera setup, a first for the 3D Suikoden series. Combat in Suikoden V uses a six-person party system, a departure from the four-person system in its predecessor, allowing for individual control of each character, which sets it apart from the third installment. Various statistics determine combat prowess and are intertwined with the skill system. Abilities such as Endurance increase a character's hit points, with each demonstrating a certain affinity for different skills. Fighters can only use two skills at a time, and they can be switched between battles. Failure in battles, leading to the loss of life points by all six heroes, leads to a restart, with the exception of special scenarios based on the story, where defeat allows the narrative to develop differently.
