Race, as a genre of computer games, appeared in the distant 1970s. One of the first representatives of this category of virtual entertainment is the project Space Race, developed and published by Atari in 1973. There were few sounds in it as well as colors (black and white), and the gameplay was extremely simple and consisted of two actions - down/up. The camera was positioned on top.
In two-dimensional plane race lived for about 20 years, but gradually, with the development of computer technology, they began to be updated with colors, sounds and gameplay elements. Later, in the early 90's, when the appearance of three-dimensional technology, racing games have changed beyond recognition: the machines began to look like the real, they looked three-dimensional, detailed, beautiful and realistic.
And now more than 40 years this genre of games on PC evolves together with the technology. For example Need For Speed series has already had more than 20 eponymous parts each of which brought something new, something unique to the PC racing genre. The number of releases of Gran Turismo, the popular driving simulator famous for its realism, has exceeded 10. The same goes for the best rally racing franchise - Colin McRae Rally, also known as DiRT.
The races are good for a number of reasons:
- Comprehensible gameplay. Almost immediately, after turning on the game, even not the most experienced virtual racer without difficulty will understand how to give the gas, brake or enter the turn;
- Rest. Races do not require intellectual effort - they only need your manual dexterity and reaction speed.
- Cooperative pastime. On the network, on the same PC or over the Internet - with friends "race" is always more fun.
