In The Banner Saga, the player explores a deeply developed, complex world with a cold, tragic atmosphere. Here the sun has stopped, and the lands abandoned by the gods to their fate are shackled by eternal winter. In such harsh conditions, people and giants varls are forced to adapt to another disaster that promises the absolute and irrevocable end of the world - mysterious dark invaders. The Banner Saga plot is divided into episodes, and in each one the events that take place are interpreted from the point of view of a new hero. The protagonist leads a caravan traveling from his native settlement in search of a universal cure for the usurpers of the Dredge. On the road, the detachment stops in villages, where they replenish their food supply, repair their equipment, and listen to the parting advice of the local population. Sometimes, instead of resting, the company gets into trouble - that's what adventures are for.On the way, the heroes are faced with insidious random events, designed in the form of schematic windows with dialogue options. For a while, the solutions seem obvious, but the further the plot goes, the more dire the consequences are for poorly thought-out actions. The same strict system works in the distribution of resources. If food supplies are depleted during a protracted transition, the morale and fighting spirit of the squad falls. The situation can reach the point of starvation of the least pumped participants of the expedition. To strengthen the equipment and reputation of each character, glory points are spent. The leader is also responsible for their use. Earned experience can be invested in personal characteristics and new abilities or transformed into weapons and equipment for the unit.
