The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night is based on the mechanics of its predecessor. Players guide Spyro through linear levels, facing enemies and eventually facing a boss at the end of each level. While combat remains the focus, the progression places an increased emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving, making for a more engaging and varied experience. Spyro's journey unfolds through the Dreams, where he meets the enigmatic Chronicler. Here, Spyro gains a variety of breath abilities, including fire, ice, electricity, and earth, which serve as tools to combat enemies. Furies, powerful elemental magical blasts, add an extra layer to Spyro's arsenal, requiring the collection of purple gems to unlock these powerful abilities. A notable addition to the repertoire is the Dragon Time ability, imparted by the Chronicler. This ability gives the ability to control time, allowing you to move along fast-moving platforms and deal with enemies more effectively. The strategic implementation of the dragon's time adds a dynamic aspect to the process, improving both movement and combat elements. Forty needles are scattered throughout the map, and each one adds to the collection of concept art. Needles serve as a useful incentive for exploration, encouraging you to delve deeper into the intricacies of each level.
