Top Gun: Combat Zones offers a dynamic combat flight simulator. The campaign is split into two main modes and provides ample opportunities to complete aerial missions. The game's main mode includes 36 missions spanning three different eras: Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and the Arctic Circle. Users complete training missions at the Miramar Air Force Base in San Diego before diving into combat scenarios. Initially piloting the iconic F-14 Tomcat, gamers unlock seven additional aircraft as they progress, including the F-18 Hornet and F-22 Raptor. Mission objectives range from taking out enemies to air support and escort missions, each with unique objectives and time constraints. Armed with an arsenal of bombs, machine guns, and various missiles, players will engage in intense aerial combat. A strategic map helps spot enemies, although it does not provide precise altitude information. You can choose a view from the cockpit or from the outside, which enhances the impression of the game. Points are awarded for skillful maneuvers and close encounters, which enhances the adrenaline-filled process. In Quick Start, users can freely tailor their missions by adjusting parameters such as the number and location of enemies. This feature allows for individual tasks and provides endless replayability.
