Venetica Is a CRPG game released in 2009 by the German studio Deck13 Interactive. The plot takes place in medieval Venice of the 16th century. The gamer controls the girl Scarlett, whose house is attacked by robbers and her fiancé Benedict is killed. As a consequence, it turns out that the killers were set on by the mysterious necromancer Victor, chosen by the Council for the post of Death, but he did not live up to expectations, and the Council decided to get rid of Victor by hiring his daughter, which turned out to be Scarlett, who did not even suspect about her abilities inherited from her father. In the universe of the game, Death is an elective position, which is transferred to the chosen one of the Council - the competent authority. The main character is hired to destroy, chosen for the position of Death, Victor and his minions.
The developers have added 2 modes: the ordinary world of the living and the afterlife. You will often have to switch between modes, since the combat mechanics of the project are based on this. The main character has a special shadow energy, with the help of which she can summon enemies who have fallen in battle and send curses to her side. Often, important battles take place in two stages: the battle begins in the world of the living, but until the end the player destroys the enemy in the afterlife. The heroine has a special weapon - the Moonblade or Moonblade, with which you can destroy creatures in the afterlife. In addition to the blade, the player has access to other weapons that are used in the world of the living: a spear, sword and hammer. As you progress through there is the possibility of pumping abilities by choosing one of the 3 guilds to join: the Order of the Holy Seal, Wing of Shadow, and the Mask Network.
Basically, the events will unfold in multi-level Venice. You will have to fight in the dark catacombs and on the bright streets. The gameplay also changes depending on the time of day - some quests are only available at night. From the technical point of view, the project turned out to be poorly optimized - there are frequent cases of freezing even on powerful computers. The levels are linear, but their elaboration and detailing is at a high level.
Venetica is a project that successfully combines RPG and hack'n'slash genres. The gameplay turned out to be well-developed, and the plot is interesting.
