Virtua Fighter 4 is a classic action game that presents a more optimized and convenient process compared to its predecessors, relying on existing concepts and introducing new methods. The dodge system has undergone significant changes compared to part 3: the dodge button has been removed and dodges have been divided into successful and unsuccessful types. In case of untimely dodges, fighters become vulnerable to attacks. The project expands the option to choose a dodge + throw, found in Virtua Fighter 3, allowing you to avoid multiple actions and expanding the window for a successful exit during an unsuccessful dodge. A new type of movement is introduced, Sabaki, which serves as an attack, and it also acts as a turn against one or more types of movements. The gameplay features two signature characters, Vanessa Lewis and Lei-Fei, who embody the experimental aspects of the franchise's universe. Vanessa Lewis, a black Vale Tudo/Muay Thai kickboxer, boasts two distinct move sets that can be easily switched between during gameplay. On the other hand, Lei-Fei, a Shaolin monk, uses a variety of stances that flow seamlessly into each other, providing a unique and challenging fighting style that is rare in the series. There is a strong emphasis on a strategic approach to combat, with a heightened focus on movement properties. Failed dodges leave fighters vulnerable to attacks, which encourages precise timing and execution.
