In War of the Monsters, players take on the role of colossal creatures furrowing the cityscapes. The game uses a unique combat style, where up to 4 monsters can fight at the same time. The perspective remains third-person, ensuring focus on the selected character. Each monster has two vital status bars: health and stamina. The HP bar depletes along with the damage dealt, which eventually leads to defeat. Stamina, which is crucial for attacks, decreases when performing certain actions, such as picking off opponents or using ranged attacks. A full stamina bar opens up special attacks, and an empty one temporarily limits basic attacks. However, throwing objects or attacking helps restore stamina. Unlike regular fighting games, unlimited movement around the city is possible. Creatures take advantage of the environment, using objects such as vehicles, debris, steel beams, and radio antennas as weapons to stun or damage opponents. Use environmental objects in the form of green or blue orbs that improve health or stamina, adding an extra layer of strategy to battles. A variety of environmental items are featured that increase HP and mana during battles.
