Who Needs a Hero's plot? doesn't try to be innovative or twisted. The protagonist is a naked adventurer from the forest, living in the kingdom of Grimar. For a long time, his home country lived in wealth and prosperity, until someone powerful with the help of magic began to set monsters from the area on cities and people. The main character, without thinking twice, sets off on a journey to save the world. The triviality of the story in Who Needs a Hero? is overshadowed only by the simplicity of the game mechanics. In essence, most of the actions, including even pumping, occur through the choice of yes or no in separate, barely related events. Sometimes there are slightly more options, and in addition to dialogues, shops appear. Battles are no less trivial: the player rolls dice, adds the result to the character's attack and measures it against the enemy's attack until health runs out. The reward for correct decisions or victories will be fame, gold and experience. However, the game does not use its simple mechanics completely. This is partly helped by the similarity to the roguelike genre. Upon death, the protagonist's journey begins anew, losing the accumulated wealth, but the choices along the way are changed to other, random ones. Moreover, over time, events stop having clearly bad or good decisions, and acquired items and skills begin to change the outcome of some dialogues. Even battles become more complex and nuanced, especially with the addition of a backpack with potions, pets, and followers.
