Wolfenstein: Blade of Agony modification is something that radically changes the well-known Doom and creates a completely new game. This version has 30 new levels, and the modified enemy artificial intelligence has become smarter. This mod has elements of Wolfenstein, such as stocky Aryan bosses with two-handed guns. And there are elements of Doom, especially the combat, which has its pace. But what makes Wolfenstein: Blade of Agony exceptional is that it is more than just a fan fiction on the alternative history of computer games. The protagonist is Blazkowicz, a Nazi killer über alles who has returned to the front lines after a period of administrative leave. The first major surprise of Blades of Agony is the cutscenes, specifically the fact that he has them. It opens with footage shot to the sound of Moonlight Sonata as Blazkowicz's comrade-in-arms, Captain Dirty Douglas Blake, types out a letter urging the American to return to active duty. The way the camera pans around the low-poly room adds depth and drama to the retro style. The protagonist does return, of course, but he isn't immediately sent to the battlefield. A briefing with Allied high command is held before each mission. Missions take place on many fronts of World War II. The first, Operation Speerspitze, takes place in Tunisia. The opening mission has a distinct difficulty curve as Blazkowicz starts out with a knife. Here is where the game reveals another clever trick: stealth. This is not always simple, but you can kill enemies, quietly sneaking up to them. The scale of what is happening is impressive. This is an amazing and exciting collision of shooter styles in an ambitious campaign.
