In Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, players go on a classic journey, typical for Japanese RPGs. The gameplay revolves around a group of heroes traveling through various territories under the guidance of a chosen leader. This adventure includes the usual exploration of various locations and includes special tasks, such as stealth missions that require evading enemies (the encounters are inevitably terrifying) or navigating arcade sequences to elude pursuers. Enemies are clearly displayed on the map and radar, allowing you to bypass a confrontation by switching from running to silently sneaking around, slipping unnoticed behind opponents. Interactions take users to separate arenas for turn-based battles, and actions in them require certain points. Each hero can perform two attacks per turn or strengthen their defense by accumulating energy for a special offensive maneuver. The arsenal includes magical abilities, both offensive and auxiliary, and some characters own piloted robots A.G.W.S (anti-gnosis weapon systems) during battles. A unique scale allows for preemptive strikes or counterattacks outside of a turn - tactics available to both sides. Travel between locations takes place on board spaceships or through a spatial metro (UMN), which makes it easy to revisit even destroyed locations.
