Ys 8: Lacrimosa of DANA again confronts the player with the already known hero named Adol Christin. An adventure RPG set in a magical universe, it tells about a period in the life of a red-haired wanderer traveling with a friend, when the guys are hired to work on the ship Lombardia. Once on the ship, the partners notice that there are people from different social groups.One day, the ship sailed near the Island of Seiren, which is known as a dangerous and mysterious place. The ship is immediately attacked by a huge monster - the Kraken, which the protagonist managed to defeat. However, due to a strong storm, the vehicle goes to the bottom. The guy finds himself on the shore of Seiren, where he tries to find other survivors, but suddenly meets a naked girl who immediately slaps him. The girl turned out to be Laxia von Roswell - one of the survivors, and they go on to search further, and soon find their captain. The latter asks the character to create a map of the island, find the rest of the people who were lucky to stay alive and take them to any shelter. Adol and Laxia go to explore the territory, find the rest of the lucky ones, with whom they create a village. Soon the protagonist begins to be tormented by obsessive dreams about the girl Dana, and he himself understands that the place of their new home is cursed. The plot has several small lines, in which different types of people also act - this is a fisherman, a baron who does not know how to do anything, a girl companion, from whom there is little use. Everyone learns more and more about new fellow tribesmen, together they explore locations, and interact with each other. Dreams about the girl disturb the hero, but soon the player will get the opportunity to play for her, learning her story.The emphasis in Action RPG is on exploration, as well as combat. Battles are presented in the slasher format with the use of different skills, where there are simple strikes, dodges, and techniques of the protagonist, which are pumped in the process. In addition to standard skills, characters have EXTRA Skill - a super-strong combat technique that can kill all living creatures in a given radius, which uses up a scale that is replenished by using regular skills. Characters also use a separate type of attack, for example, crushing, chopping, piercing, which is necessary to kill a separate type of enemy. There is also Flash Guard, Flash Move with different effects, where the first one before the enemy attack gives short-term invulnerability like a shield, but in case of dodging.
