2D games are not a genre at all, but a broad concept that encompasses all existing categories of video games. 2D games, in their essence, are a special niche of virtual entertainment, which has experienced difficult times for itself. In the late 90-ies this category of computer games was at the peak of popularity, but in the early noughties, its relevance came to naught. Two-dimensional and isometric games received a second breath in 2010, when there was a real boom among various indie projects. Since then, the relevance of "flat" games does not come to naught, and some projects are able to give up in their popularity and sales of the famous 3D titles.
