Age of Empires is the legendary, first part of the series of strategy games, which practically laid the foundations for the classic elements of the genre. Players are given a choice of 12 nationalities, they need to be taken under control and move along the time frame towards development. Often you have to fight, defend populated areas and capture new ones. In addition to battles, there are trade and diplomacy systems, where parties can demand payment, conduct an equal exchange, cooperate, provide support or stop hostility under certain conditions. Everything revolves around valuable and necessary resources. Native lands give them for free, others need to be seized, exchanged or accessed using the partnership method. Everything starts with the first stage, there is a small settlement that grows to the scale of a city, and then megalopolises. Other estates appear and everything gradually takes on a more familiar appearance for modern times. Such concepts as navigation, religion are provided. Food is inexhaustible, but the supply of other values ​​is limited.The population must be led through 4 eras:

• Stone Age - there is an elementary set of tools for cutting trees and collecting food in the natural environment, only primitive shelters are capable of building;
• Neolithic - will give some tools, warriors will come up with basic armor, and settlers know what farming is;
• Bronze - people appeared who can read and write, craftsmen process metal, workers use the wheel, and military affairs organize armies;
• Hardware - new technologies, structures, money is used in markets, paramilitary units arrange sieges.Everyone starts from scratch, there is a tiny settlement that grows to the size of a city, and then a capital. Other estates appear and everything gradually acquires a more familiar appearance for modern times.

Each representative has dominant and lagging skills:

• Egyptians are more successful in gold mining, priests are much more tongue-tied, but there are no coins;
• Greeks willingly go to war, but cannot declare it sacred;
• Assyrians are good archers, but run without armor;
• Sumerians succeeded in good health;
• Minoans build ships for pennies;
• Phoenicians acquired strong elephants, but are not able to achieve the latest achievements;
• Babylonians learned to build walls, but did not guess about armor;
• Hittites will make combat devices;
• Persians are excellent hunters;
• Chinese pay a pittance for labor;
• The Japanese workers are the fastest;
• Koreans love towers.
