In addition to many references to popular genre representatives, the gameplay itself changes during the gameplay, demonstrating the technical transformations of recent decades. Exploring the world, fighting, searching for valuables - everything here is aimed at discovering important milestones in history. The plot is a collective image - the main character is a member of the order of dragon knights, and travels to help ordinary people in the fight against evil, which has returned to Evoland. But even this simple story the player will first have to find in one of the chests.Evoland greets the gamer with monochrome and deathly silence, and the protagonist can only walk in one direction. Exploration of the environment gradually transforms everything around. Graphically, the game will go the way of bypassing the 256 color palette, pixel style, and will lead to three-dimensionality with HD textures, midi sounds will be replaced by 16-bit melodies, and empty spaces will be filled with villages with traders, dungeons and dozens of NPCs ready to give out another quest. Turn-based battles, companions in the squad, boss battles, traps in caves and skill upgrades - each element of the genre manifests itself as the protagonist moves forward.
