GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon will appeal to avid fans of the retro style. The name GetsuFumaDen translates to Legend of Fuma Getsu, in reference to the main character, and the game itself looks like a cross between an art and Japanese style. And it works great, with great, picturesque ukiyo-e graphics and Japanese, in terms of the setting, yokai-based enemies.While the normal, randomly generated levels can sometimes look a bit dull, the scenery is usually the opposite, with some awesome boss fights where the camera suddenly starts spinning in 3D.GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon involves collecting a variety of weapons, from swords and spears to clubs and whips, and using additional equipment, which is usually bombs. All equipment is lost upon death, but you can keep special moves and abilities, as well as unlockable gear. Combat can be conducted using useful dashes and various attacks that break the enemy's defense, but the platforming can sometimes seem a little boring, especially when you have to run and climb up high places.The game's levels are randomly generated and monsters often appear on tiny platforms, making them impossible to deal with unless you have the right weapons, and they always seem to know exactly where the player is, even when they are not on the screen. This 2D platformer stands out for its visuals and atmosphere.
