Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland poses a unique task - within a year, save a village from an impending resort construction. The campaign offers nine different paths to salvation, depending on the player's choices and relationships with the villagers. These decisions dictate various quest lines, including tasks such as digging up treasure or finding magical ingredients. Having reached the final, you can restart the session, again trying to save your homeland and, possibly, opening other results. Accumulated money and animals earned in previous attempts can be saved. Each ending achieved is listed in the endings list, along with the villager profiles that play a central role in that decision. In true franchise style, players farm, grow and sell crops, and care for animals. However, unlike other entries in the series, Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland eliminates the marriage and parenthood options. Gamers focus on managing their farm, making strategic decisions that determine the fate of the village. The campaign follows the friendship between a dog and a horse. The horse facilitates quick travel around the village, while the dog can be trained to perform useful tasks, such as herding cows into the barn. It is also possible to own cows and chickens, since contented and well-groomed animals can potentially bring valuable resources, such as golden eggs and golden milk.
