Maximo immerses you in a bright, vast three-dimensional kingdom, where you have to take control of the eponymous main character. Traveling through a variety of landscapes, players direct Maximo's movements using a wide range of actions: from fast running and dexterous jumps to strategic squatting. The main focus of the game is on confronting hordes of opponents, involving them in a combination of fencing, shield tactics and complex maneuvers. Drawing on the legacy of the Ghosts series, Maximo faces off against enemies clad in armor that thins with each hit. Progress reveals a risk-reward dynamic, with losing lives giving the opportunity to respawn using Death Coins, but the cost increasing with each subsequent respawn. The dynamic world of Maximo is made up of five distinct worlds: The Boneyard, The Great Damp, The Ship Graveyard, The Spirit Realm, and The Castle. Each world progresses through four stages, culminating in an encounter with a fearsome boss. The journey unfolds methodically, beginning with the mandatory entry into the opening stage of each world, followed by the ability to access other stages via portal stages. These portal episodes serve as multifunctional centers that allow you to save progress, move between worlds, and obtain necessary items such as health and food. The interaction of opponents at these stages of the portal creates an additional level of complexity that requires strategic interaction.
