The Haunted Mansion is an atmospheric adventure set in a nineteenth-century antebellum mansion with Renaissance/Dutch Colonial Revival influences, located on the bayou outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. The once friendly ghosts now serve Thorne's dark plans, and the family has fled, leaving the mansion abandoned and haunted.Meet Ezekiel Holloway, an aspiring writer whose search for work led him to the mansion's doorstep on October 17, 1879. Upon arrival, he is met by six ghostly comrades enslaved by Thorn. Madame Leota, a spirit inside a crystal ball, uncovers Thorn's nefarious plot to trap 999 souls and seize control of the afterlife. Armed with the Soul Beacon, a magical lantern, Ezekiel must thwart Thorn's plan and free the mansion from its ghostly prison.Gameplay takes players on a linear journey through the mansion's hallways, tasked with collecting souls to progress. Each room presents challenges, from fighting ghostly enemies to solving puzzles. The eerie atmosphere of the mansion is accentuated by encounters with increasingly formidable enemies, ranging from simple ghosts to fearsome creatures like giant spiders and banshees. Zeke's lantern serves as his primary weapon, with various upgrades unlocked by collecting soul gems scattered throughout the mansion.
