The Town of Light is a game with an alarming atmosphere and a deep psychological plot, telling the story of a young girl who found herself within the walls of a destroyed dispensary for mentally ill people. The gameplay involves wandering through creepy rooms that hold the fragments of the schizophrenic memories of an unfortunate heroine named Renee. Each room - be it a kitchen, a ward, a shower or an operating room - has at one time witnessed terrible events, preserving the ghosts of images of violence, helplessness and lust. The protagonist collects objects by solving simple puzzles, as well as documents written in the hand of her attending physician. As the plot progresses, short cutscenes and expressive animated illustrations appear in the game, lifting the veil of secrecy over Renee's fragmented mind. The Town of Light is an extremely ambiguous story in which there is no direct indication of the veracity of the visions that visited the patient. The injuries inflicted by hospital staff and the illusions that have tormented the heroine's consciousness since childhood are mixed into a single kaleidoscope of madness. In the City of Light there is no sun and no compassion, but in the heart of every living thing there is a spark of hope and a desire for love. There will be no happy ending, as well as a full recovery, but the trials that befell the barely grown-up child will not leave anyone indifferent. By studying the medical history, describing the objective picture of the symptoms, you can look at the situation through the eyes of a psychiatrist, and by reliving nightmares in the form of illustrated screensavers, you can feel the despair of a sick soul.
