The events of the X4: Cradle of Humanity expansion unfold in the same fictional universe as the main game. The user is invited to move closer to planet Earth in order to immerse themselves in the relationships between the various factions of people. Humanity has divided into separate groups, each with its own personal characteristics and political views. Terraforming is provided - the ability to change the surface of planets, creating unique objects and landforms. It is allowed to destroy mountains in order to level the area, or, conversely, create difficult terrain from several mountain ranges.
