Spyro: A Heros Tail is a 3D platformer adventure where players engage in a variety of activities, from collecting items and solving puzzles to fighting pattern-based bosses. The titular purple dragon embarks on a mission to save the Dragon Realms from the impending danger of corruption caused by the Dark Gems planted by the exiled Elder Dragon Red. These gems spawn maniacal creatures and deadly plants, sucking the life out of the environment to empower Red. Gameplay includes familiar Spyro moves such as jumping, flying, and headbutting enemies, complemented by breath attacks such as fire, ice, and electricity. Spyro gains new abilities in this installment, including ledge grabbing, wall kicking, and a water breathing attack. Additional features include purchasing breath attacks from Mr. Moneybags and learning new techniques from Elder Dragons.Settings vary from vibrant cities to dark caves and snowy mountains, and each has save points represented by Zoe. As players progress, they collect Dark Gems to repair damaged environments, witness transformations, and obtain Light Gems, Dragon Eggs, Colored Gems, and Rainbow Shards. Light Gems play a crucial role in opening locked doors and charging gadgets. Dragon Eggs unlock mini-games and concept art, while Colored Gems serve as currency in Mr. Moneybags' shop. Gamers earn items by defeating enemies, opening gates, destroying hidden walls, and completing mini-games. Enemy encounters become increasingly difficult, requiring special breath attacks to successfully eliminate. Features mini-game sections with characters such as the Cheetah Hunter, Sgt. Rocket-powered penguin Bird and Mole Blink. Each character has unique abilities, and they contribute to a variety of process.
